Research and Development
Welcome to Mopani TVET College Research and Development Unit.
The overall aim of the research unit is to develop a research agenda derived from the college’s values, societal needs, and the sustainability imperatives.
OBJECTIVES:
- Conduct research of significance based on selected, focused strategic research areas in line with the DHET Research agenda.
- Conduct collaborative and interdisciplinary research that addresses the societal challenges.
- Inform the future research agenda and strategically involve the stakeholders.
RESEARCH UNIT`S STRATEGIC PLAN: 2026 – 2030
So far, the research agenda comprises six focus areas pertaining to PSET that have been derived inter alia from the National Development Plan (NDP) (2011), the White Paper for Post-School Education and Training (PSET) (2013), the Draft National Plan for Post-School Education and Training (NPPSET) (2019), and the Department’s key policy imperatives.
This focus areas include among others expanded access to PSET opportunities, a responsive PSET system and improved interface between education and training Institutions and the world of work, improved quality of PSET provision, improved efficiency, and success of the PSET system, equity and transformation, and an integrated and coordinated PSET system.
Also, the strategic priority 1 emphasises that the TVET Colleges are expected to drive inclusive growth and job creation TVET by undertaking the research and produce technical reports to inform the development of the lists of critical skills to identify the local, regional, and national skills demand.
This plan identifies the research activities, mission, values, and stakeholders supporting the grand strategy of this college. It also presents clear, achievable objectives and targets for the department for the period 2029.
This research for impact at MTVETC implies optimising the scientific, economic, social, scholarly, and cultural impact. Our focus is on interdisciplinary research that benefits society on a national, continental, and global scale.
At the same time, we commit to basic and disciplinary research excellence, as it forms the basis for applied and translational research.
MOPANI TVET COLLEGE (ACTION / APPLIED) RESEARCH) UNIT
- Purpose – solving the real-world problems identified by the GNU, Provincial, local municipalities, industry, or policy.
- Applied Research for practical solutions to the societal/industrial problems.
- Action Research for improving our own practices (e.g. teaching and learning, management, responsive/relevant programmes).
